Los Angeles parking app challenge from Ford asks devs to recreate parking lots

losangelesemptyparkinglotDevelopers could win as much as $15,000 for finding new exciting creative uses for Los Angeles’ vast parking space surplus and quagmire of problems.

Los Angeles has a parking problem even though  it has the highest density of parking spaces in the world. It’s downtown contains more spaces per acre than any other city. However finding a parking spot can still be difficult and stressful.  L.A. also has a mountain-size surplus because lots are built for prime times and often vacant.

Find gas stations and pay from your connected car demoed

SAPHanaconnectedfuelSAP is working with Toyota and VeriFone for gas pump payments directly from cars. Drivers get notified when gas is low, are directed to a gas station that accepts wireless payments and then can get promos from the filling station such as discounts on smart water or other favorites of the drivers.  The video claims that personal information will not be stolen.  There is a marketplace for geo-location offers for the driver.

SAP aggregates information on a vehicle’s location, route and fuel level as well as points of interest. VeriFone provides point-of-sale (POS) solutions and Toyota ITC provides telematics data.

Zubie iControls Connected Car and Home @developersgarage

zubiewithphoneConnected car OBII device and app maker Zubie  has partnered with iControl Networks. Together, they plan to offer home automation through cars and  smartphones seamlessly.

Zubie lets family members know when you are your own way home or share locations with fellow Zubie users.  Zubie connects to the OBII computer port on cars.

 

dash App Better Driving with Car Info & Bluetooth for Android Like Automatic

DashappandroidscoresHere’s an easy inexpensive way to connect to the data in car on Android via Bluetooth. Dash claims it can “make any car, a smart car.”

Dash is similar to Automatic, using Bluetooth and a connection to the OBD-II port to gather driving information and make suggestions. Automatic, however, currently only works with iPhone(Android coming soon) while Dash works with Android and will be available for iPhone in the future.
