In connected car apps to reach 269 million by 2018, thanks 2 CarPlay and Android Wear

telematicsfeturesA new report by Juniper Research on the telematics sector  found that the number of in-vehicle apps in use is expected to reach 269 million by 2018, representing a more than five fold increase on last year’s figure.

Connected Cars: Consumer & Commercial Telematics and Infotainment 2014-2018 reports growth will be fueled by solutions such as Apple’s CarPlay, which will promote in-car apps.

Los Angeles has a parking problem even though  it has the highest density of parking spaces in the world. It’s downtown contains more spaces per acre than any other city. However finding a parking spot can still be difficult and stressful.  L.A. also has a mountain-size surplus because lots are built for prime times and often vacant.

Find gas stations and pay from your connected car demoed

Drivers get notified when gas is low, are directed to a gas station that accepts wireless payments and then can get promos from the filling station such as discounts on smart water or other favorites of the drivers.  The video claims that personal information will not be stolen.  There is a marketplace for geo-location offers for the driver.

SAP aggregates information on a vehicle’s location, route and fuel level as well as points of interest. VeriFone provides point-of-sale (POS) solutions and Toyota ITC provides telematics data.

Nokia Invests in Connected Cars with HERE Mapping Locatioin Tech

The fund invests in companies for new innovative connected and smart vehicles.

TeleNav Extends Ford Deal to 2017 Updates Scout iPhone App

searchaheadTelenav reported that it has expanded its supplier agreement with Ford until 2017 and updated its Scout for iPhone app.

Most GPS navigation apps like Google Maps and Apple Maps don’t let you search while you’re already navigating.  Telenav’s update of its Scout for iPhone app helps people find restaurants, coffee shops, or gas stations that are right along their route – and lets them easily add these as pit stops with the fewest taps on the iPhone.

AUPEO! Streaming Music on Volkswagen via MirrorLink
