2025 World Car of the Year: Kia EV3

The Kia EV3 has been honored as the 2025 World Car of the Year at the New York International Auto Show. This marks Kia’s second consecutive win and third overall, following the EV9 in 2024 and the Telluride in 2020. The EV3 was selected from an initial list of 52 contenders, with the BMW X3 and Hyundai Inster/Casper Electric also making the top three finalists. A jury of 96 international automotive journalists from 30 countries evaluated the vehicles based on design, technology, and sustainability. Kia’s CEO, Ho Sung Song, highlighted the EV3’s role in redefining the user experience with its class-leading attributes. Eligible vehicles for this award must be produced in volumes of at least 10,000 units per year, priced below the luxury-car level, and available in at least two major markets across two continents between January 1, 2024, and March 30, 2025.

World Car Design of the Year: Volkswagen ID. Buzz

Volkswagen’s ID. Buzz, a modern electric reinterpretation of the classic Microbus, earned the 2025 World Car Design of the Year award. The vehicle’s blend of nostalgic design cues with contemporary electric vehicle aesthetics impressed the jury, highlighting its role in connecting Volkswagen’s heritage with its electric future.

World Urban Car: BYD Seagull / Dolphin Mini

The BYD Seagull, also known as the Dolphin Mini, secured the 2025 World Urban Car title. This compact electric vehicle was recognized for its affordability, efficiency, and suitability for urban environments, reflecting BYD’s commitment to sustainable and accessible mobility solutions.

World Performance Car: Porsche 911 Carrera GTS
