Subaru Unveils Upgraded 2026 Solterra EV at New York Auto Show

Subaru of America introduced the 2026 Solterra EV on Wednesday at the New York International Auto Show, unveiling a more refined version of its all-electric SUV with notable gains in range, power, and in-car technology.

Initially launched in 2023, the Solterra enters its next generation with improved driving performance, efficiency, and cabin design. It remains built on Subaru’s hallmark Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and includes the EyeSight® suite of driver-assistance features. New for 2026 is a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™.

More Power, Greater Range

Powered by a 74.7-kWh lithium-ion battery, the Solterra now offers an estimated range exceeding 285 miles—over 25% more than the previous model. A new battery preconditioning system optimizes charging performance in cold weather, especially when navigating to a charging station.

A reengineered all-wheel-drive system manages dual motors independently for improved traction on varied terrain. The standard Solterra generates 233 horsepower, while a new XT trim adds dual electric motors producing 338 horsepower—enough for a 0-60 mph sprint in under five seconds.

Charging times are also improved: the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in under 35 minutes with speeds up to 150 kW. Standard NACS ports allow access to over 15,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America. Level 1 and Level 2 home charging remain available.

Off-Road-Ready, City-Smart

Maintaining Subaru’s off-road credibility, the Solterra features 8.3 inches of ground clearance and X-MODE® with Snow/Dirt and Deep Snow/Mud settings. Enhancements to the suspension and steering deliver improved handling, with predictive all-wheel drive optimizing grip and reducing body roll.

Tech-Forward Interior

The updated cabin features a 14-inch center touchscreen and standard wireless smartphone chargers. Rear passengers benefit from high-power USB-C ports, while drivers get a host of standard EyeSight® technologies—from adaptive cruise control and blind spot monitoring to a panoramic view monitor and Traffic Jam Assist.

Sharper Design, Inside and Out

The Solterra adopts a bolder exterior look, led by a new lighting signature, illuminated Subaru badge, and redesigned front bumper and wheels. At the rear, updated lighting elements and a new spoiler improve both aesthetics and aerodynamics.

Inside, a low-profile touchscreen and wide center console contribute to a more open cabin. Metallic accents and a horizontal dash design add a modern touch. Select colorways offer new body-color fenders for a more streamlined urban look, complemented by optional 20-inch alloy wheels and two-tone paint schemes.

Full pricing and specifications for the 2026 Solterra will be announced ahead of its on-sale date later this year.
