Starting today, Hyundai electric vehicle owners in the United States will gain access to Tesla’s extensive Supercharger network through a newly available adapter. The initiative, aimed at enhancing charging convenience, enables owners of the Hyundai KONA Electric, IONIQ Electric hatchback, IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6 to connect to 20,000 Tesla Superchargers nationwide using a North American Charging Standard (NACS) adapter.
Hyundai will begin notifying eligible owners—those who purchased or leased their vehicles on or before January 31, 2025—via email starting the week of April 7 with instructions on how to claim their complimentary adapter. Owners must have an active MyHyundai account and opt in to email communications to participate.
The move is a significant step in Hyundai’s broader strategy to improve EV adoption in the U.S. By integrating NACS compatibility, the company is effectively doubling the fast-charging options available to its customers. “Starting today, more Hyundai EV customers will have access to 20,000 Tesla Superchargers across North America, doubling their fast-charging options,” said Olabisi Boyle, senior vice president of product planning and mobility strategy for Hyundai Motor North America. “This move improves the public charging experience by giving our customers even more choice. It’s a vital part of our commitment to ease America’s transition to electric vehicle ownership.”
The new CCS-to-NACS adapter, designed specifically for Hyundai’s EVs, is compatible with the company’s advanced e-GMP high-voltage platform. Looking ahead, Hyundai plans to integrate NACS ports directly into future models, eliminating the need for adapters. The 2025 IONIQ 5, 2026 IONIQ 9, and all upcoming Hyundai EVs will include native NACS ports as standard equipment.
Beyond expanding charging accessibility, Hyundai is ramping up domestic EV and battery production in Savannah, Georgia, and investing in the IONNA high-speed charging network, a joint venture aimed at enhancing public charging infrastructure. Hyundai customers will also have access to special discounted charging rates and incentives for home charging solutions.
For owners looking to claim their complimentary adapter, Hyundai has outlined a step-by-step process to ensure a smooth redemption experience. Eligible customers must verify their account details and accept the adapter’s terms and conditions through their MyHyundai account. Once confirmed, the adapter will be shipped directly to the registered address.
With Hyundai’s push toward greater EV adoption, the company is ensuring its customers have reliable, accessible charging solutions. While the complimentary adapter program applies to Hyundai Motor America customers, Hyundai Motor Canada plans to announce its own strategy for NACS access later this year.
