Wireless Android Auto Glitches & Rebooting Issues: Possible Fixes?

Android Auto users have reported significant wireless connectivity problems following recent software updates, with some devices experiencing unexpected reboots when attempting to connect to vehicles. Others have found that wireless functionality fails entirely, leaving wired connections as the only option.

Google acknowledged the issue in a statement to The Verge, saying its team is “aware of the issue” and is “currently investigating a fix.” However, the company has not provided a timeline for a resolution.

Complaints have surfaced on Google’s Android Auto forums and Reddit, where users describe Bluetooth connections that drop unexpectedly or only work after rebooting their phones. Some have encountered a more severe issue in which Android Auto forces their devices to restart without warning, sometimes in the middle of calls or while streaming audio.

The connectivity problems appear to coincide with the rollout of Android Auto versions 13.4 and 13.5 in January and February.

Interacting with Android Auto once it connects has helped some users.

A Reddit users reported “having the same issue. ’21 Audi Q5 + OnePlus 12 running AA 13.5.650284-release.  It seems to become responsive only after interacting with the phone while it’s connected to AA. once I do that, it works, for a while. Otherwise, it soft-reboots, then automatically reconnects to the car.”

Other Reddit users reported:

  1. Reverting to older android auto 13.3 works, specifically 13.3.644684-release. I traced the timeline of my app update on play store and the time when I first experienced this issue, seemed to suggest AA update issue. Everythings works as before after rolling back to older update. You may try other version of the release to see what works for you. https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/google-inc/android-auto/android-auto-13-3-6446-release/android-auto-13-3-644684-release-android-apk-download/
  2. Clearing cache and data of android auto (version 13.4 and 13.5) will also work, each time after AA reboots your phone or after you establish connection when you started the car. This is very tedious process, so just use Solution 1 for now.
