Rhythmos.io and E3 Study Highlights Cost-Saving Potential of Optimized EV Charging

Rhythmos.io, in collaboration with consulting firm E3, has released a study showing that optimized managed EV charging can significantly reduce grid upgrade costs. The research found that for the utilities modeled, optimized charging could cut distribution transformer upgrade costs by approximately 60% compared to unmanaged charging, potentially saving billions nationwide.

By leveraging the Rhythmos.io Cadency EdgeAI℠ platform, utilities can defer or avoid costly infrastructure investments while maintaining grid reliability. The platform dynamically manages EV charging at critical grid points, helping utilities accommodate higher EV adoption without incurring additional system costs. The study underscores the importance of proactive grid-edge optimization in supporting electrification goals while minimizing consumer rate impacts.

Blink Charging to Deploy Up to 50 EV Charging Ports in Alameda

Blink Charging Co. has secured an agreement to install up to 50 EV charging ports across the City of Alameda, California. The project will be rolled out in phases, starting with 13 Level 2 and DC fast charging (DCFC) ports at four locations, with an additional 34 ports planned based on funding and city priorities.

Blink will collaborate with city officials to identify key locations and provide comprehensive services, including site preparation, installation, maintenance, and training. The initiative aims to expand public EV charging access, supporting Alameda’s sustainability goals and growing EV infrastructure needs.

NorthStar Courier Expands EV Fleet with Workhorse W56 Extended Wheelbase

NorthStar Courier, a FedEx Ground Contract Service Provider in Minneapolis, is the first customer to operate Workhorse’s new W56 208″ extended wheelbase EV step van. This addition builds on its existing W56 178″ model, enhancing its zero-emission delivery capabilities. The W56 offers nearly 1,200 cubic feet of cargo space, ideal for high-volume deliveries, and has proven reliable in extreme conditions. Supported by Minnesota state grants for fleet electrification, this purchase highlights NorthStar’s commitment to sustainability. Workhorse will showcase the W56 at Work Truck Week® 2025 in Indianapolis.

Adden Energy Launches Production Line for Next-Generation Lithium Metal Solid-State Batteries

Adden Energy has commissioned a state-of-the-art production line to manufacture advanced batteries that surpass current commercial options in energy density, charge rate, and safety. These batteries leverage dynamic-stability, a scientific breakthrough from Harvard, to combine lithium metal and all-solid-state technologies while maintaining compatibility with conventional lithium-ion manufacturing equipment.

By using standard industry equipment with minor modifications, Adden Energy eliminates the high costs typically associated with lithium metal solid-state battery production. This innovation enables large-scale, cost-effective manufacturing, making the batteries viable for applications such as electric vehicles. Automakers and industrial customers have already placed purchase orders, with production ramping up to meet demand.

The company celebrated the commissioning of its new line with Massachusetts Secretary of Economic Development Yvonne Hao, who highlighted Adden Energy’s role in advancing domestic manufacturing and high-tech job creation. Supported by MassVentures since its inception, the company has grown from a Harvard research project into a leader in next-generation battery technology. Full-scale production is expected by summer to support global automaker demand.

IonQ Advances Compact Ion Trap Vacuum Technology for Scalable Quantum Computing

IonQ has developed a next-generation ion trap vacuum package prototype, enabling the creation of smaller, room-temperature quantum systems. The company has also constructed an advanced assembly chamber to manufacture miniaturized ion trap vacuum

packages capable of achieving Extreme High Vacuum (XHV) levels, similar to those found on the Moon’s surface.

By eliminating the need for cryogenic vacuum systems, IonQ’s approach reduces energy consumption, lowers computational costs, and enhances system modularity for easier maintenance. These advancements support the company’s vision of scalable, enterprise-grade quantum computing by simplifying manufacturing, installation, and long-term operation.

IonQ’s XHV innovations complement its collaborations with NKT Photonics and imec to integrate photonic subsystems and develop chip-scale ion trap technology. This breakthrough brings quantum computing closer to widespread adoption by improving efficiency, reducing complexity, and increasing accessibility for real-world applications.
