an Automotive (NASDAQ: RIVN) announced today that it is officially opening sales of its highly anticipated Rivian Commercial Van to fleets of all sizes across the United States. This marks a significant milestone for the electric vehicle manufacturer as it moves beyond its exclusive partnership with Amazon, signaling a bold push into the broader commercial market.
The Rivian Commercial Van, the same platform underpinning Amazon’s custom electric delivery vans (EDVs), has been meticulously designed from the ground up with a focus on safety, driver comfort, sustainability, and cost efficiency. Equipped with advanced safety features such as automatic emergency braking, forward collision warnings, and 360-degree visibility, the van is engineered to meet the rigorous demands of commercial fleets while setting new benchmarks for road safety.
Since the conclusion of Rivian’s exclusivity agreement with Amazon, the company has been conducting extensive pilot programs with several large U.S. fleets. These trials have provided critical data, allowing Rivian to refine its fleet management systems and optimize vehicle performance in real-world conditions. The successful outcomes of these pilots have paved the way for Rivian’s latest move, opening up sales to businesses ranging from small local operators to national logistics giants.
The Rivian Commercial Van will be available in two configurations, the 500 and the 700, offering payload capacities of up to 2,663 pounds and a Gross Vehicle Weight Rating (GVWR) of up to 9,500 pounds. At the heart of its innovation is Rivian’s proprietary software ecosystem, which manages everything from vehicle access and security to charging schedules and performance analytics. This integrated approach not only streamlines fleet operations but also enhances driver productivity and reduces the total cost of ownership.
“Through existing partnerships, our commercial vans have already proven incredibly successful,” said Tom Solomon, Rivian’s Senior Director of Business Development. “Amazon currently operates more than 20,000 of our vans, which helped deliver over a billion packages in 2024 alone. Over the past year, we’ve focused on extensive testing with larger fleets, and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. As a result, we’re thrilled to open sales to fleets of all sizes in the U.S., whether a company needs just one van or thousands.”
Solomon emphasized that the Rivian Commercial Van is more than just a vehicle—it’s a strategic asset for businesses looking to reduce operational costs and shrink their carbon footprint. The vans are designed not only to be among the safest on the road but also to contribute to long-term sustainability goals, aligning with the growing demand for environmentally responsible transportation solutions.
