In an era where road safety remains a critical concern, Seeing Machines, a leader in AI-driven operator monitoring technology, has unveiled its 2023-24 *Guardian Insights Report*. The findings, drawn from over 60,000 vehicles equipped with the company’s *Guardian* system, offer a sobering look at the scale of driver fatigue and distraction worldwide.
Spanning all major global regions, the report analyzes data from Seeing Machines’ advanced fatigue and distraction detection technology, scientifically proven to reduce fatigue-related driving incidents by more than 90%. The system identified a staggering 11.6 million risky driving events globally, confirmed by analysts at its 24/7 monitoring center. These included over 450,000 fatigue events and more than 2.7 million instances of distracted driving, with mobile phone use implicated in nearly a quarter of the distraction cases.
“Driver distraction and fatigue remain among the leading contributors to road accidents and fatalities worldwide,” said Max Verberne, General Manager of Aftermarket at Seeing Machines. “This report not only quantifies the scale of the problem but also equips fleet operators with actionable insights to reduce risks and save lives.”
Regional disparities highlight the complexity of the issue. Latin America, for instance, accounted for nearly half of all global distraction events, while the UK reported the lowest rate of mobile phone-related distractions.
Seeing Machines’ *Guardian Insights Report* underscores the urgent need for targeted, data-driven measures to combat these persistent risks. The findings aim to serve as a call to action for fleet managers, policymakers, and road safety advocates, urging them to prioritize technology and strategies that safeguard lives on the road.
With its vision of zero transport fatalities, Seeing Machines continues to push for a future where advanced monitoring technology is a standard safeguard in commercial transport and logistics.
