In a demonstration of electric vehicle “heights”, Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 has set a Guinness World Records™ title for the greatest altitude change by an electric car. The remarkable journey, spanning from the icy peaks of Umling La in Leh Ladakh to the coastal depths of Kuttanad, Kerala, showcased the award-winning EV’s resilience and engineering might.
The record attempt, orchestrated by Hyundai Motor India Limited (HMIL) and executed by Evo India’s professional team, saw the IONIQ 5 conquer an altitude shift of 5,802 meters. The adventure began at Umling La, the world’s highest drivable point at 5,799 meters above sea level, and concluded three meters below sea level in Kuttanad, traversing 4,900 kilometers over 14 challenging days.
From frigid Himalayan landscapes to humid coastal plains, the IONIQ 5 tackled extreme terrains and weather conditions, underscoring Hyundai’s commitment to technological excellence and sustainability.
“This achievement is a testament to Hyundai’s dedication to innovation and our vision of ‘Progress for Humanity,'” said Unsoo Kim, Managing Director of HMIL. “The IONIQ 5’s outstanding performance in these extreme conditions reflects its engineering prowess and durability.”
The feat further cements the IONIQ 5 as a trailblazer in the electric mobility sector. Beyond its record-breaking journey, the EV continues to set standards with its blend of performance, safety, and design, paving the way for a sustainable future in mobility.
