May Mobility and Toyota Launch Autonomous Vehicle Service with e-Palette in Japan

May Mobility has launched an autonomous vehicle (AV) service at Toyota Motor Kyushu’s (TMK) Miyata factory in Fukuoka, Japan, utilizing Toyota’s e-Palette mobility-as-a-service (MaaS) platform. This service, aimed at improving transit options for factory employees and guests, uses May Mobility’s autonomous driving technology integrated with the battery-electric e-Palette vehicle.

The deployment includes real-time reinforcement learning through May Mobility’s patented Multi-Policy Decision Making (MPDM) technology, enabling advanced AI-based driving performance. Following rigorous testing in Japan, the e-Palette service operates on a designated route within the factory, with an autonomous vehicle operator (AVO) for supervision.

May Mobility’s collaboration with Toyota, MONET Technologies, and NTT is poised to expand AV deployments in Japan. This marks another milestone in May Mobility’s global efforts, which have delivered over 400,000 rides across the U.S. and Japan.

PreFixer: A Revolutionary Tool for Adapting Autonomous Vehicle Sensors

Meriel von Stein, a Copenhaver Fellow at the University of Virginia, has developed PreFixer, an augmented encoder designed to address sensor compatibility challenges in autonomous driving systems. Published in IEEE Robotics and Automation Letters, PreFixer enables seamless adaptation of new sensors to pre-trained deep neural networks (DNNs), solving issues caused by sensor updates or replacements. Tested in simulated road scenarios, PreFixer demonstrated superior performance, reducing training time by 50% and requiring only 10% of the usual data. This breakthrough offers a cost-effective, efficient solution to sensor migration, paving the way for robust, adaptable autonomous systems.
