The new feature tracks the average cost per kilowatt-hour (kWh) for public charging at all levels—Level 1, Level 2, and DC Fast Charging—broken down by state. As of today, the national average cost for a kWh at a public charging station is 34 cents. By comparison, the national average price for a gallon of gas has dipped to $3.06, a two-cent drop from last week and tied with January 2024’s low. Notably, 28 states now report average gas prices under $3 per gallon.
“While gas prices fluctuate daily and often require close monitoring, EV charging rates remain remarkably steady,” said Andrew Gross, a spokesperson for AAA. “Over the past six months, we’ve observed that charging costs have shifted by less than a penny. Whether you’re fueling up with gasoline or plugging in your EV, the bottom line remains the same—it’s all about keeping your car running.”
Unlike the comprehensive gasoline price map, which provides detailed information at the national, state, county, and metropolitan levels, the EV charging map currently offers national and state averages only. The tool also highlights the availability of public charging stations in each state. Historical pricing data for EV charging is not yet available.
