It also preserves the appearance, macro- and micronutrients, as well as the consistency of the food. Air frying is a popular method to achieve crispy food using hot air and very little oil, but a separate appliance is usually required and not every kitchen has enough space to store one. With the new Bosch Series 8 ovens, however, the Air Fry heating mode comes as a standard feature.

Bridgestone Bridges Tech, Fleets and Sustainability

Bridgestone will showcase its comprehensive vision for sustainable mobility at the 2023 Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas from January 5-8. The company’s presence at CES 2023 is centered around three key themes:

  • Renewable natural rubber and tire recycling: Guayule is a domestically sourced natural rubber that is derived from desert shrubs in the arid regions of the U.S. and Mexico, and Bridgestone is co-developing tire recycling technologies as part of its EVERTIRE INITIATIVE.
  • “Smart Corner” digitally connected tires and air springs for EVs: Vehicle performance, efficiency, safety and comfort are enhanced through sensor-enabled tires and air springs.
  • Digital concierge for personal and fleet vehicle management: Vehicle owners and operators are empowered with online, concierge-style vehicle management tools to service their vehicles on their terms.

The delivery of sustainable mobility requires each stage of the tire and rubber product’s life—from manufacturing and ownership to maintenance and end-of-life material circularity—to consider the most responsible processes and tools for each step. At CES, Bridgestone will demonstrate its vision of end-to-end tire ownership and vehicle management experience with the ultimate goal of carbon-neutral transportation in the future.

Making a More Sustainable Tire

Bridgestone has committed to the target of increasing the use of recycled and renewable materials to 40 percent of its resources by 2030 and achieving the goal of using 100 percent sustainable materials by 2050. At CES, the company will showcase several key elements of its aim for a sustainable and circular tire economy.

A renewable alternative source of natural rubber, guayule, produces natural rubber with properties equal to that derived from hevea. Guayule is a desert shrub native to arid regions of the U.S. and Mexico and requires 40% less water than crops such as alfalfa and cotton, grown today in the American southwest. The company has invested more than $100 million in the development and commercialization of guayule-derived natural rubber and currently operates a 281-acre research farm, a bio-processing pilot plant and several grower partnerships with local farmers and Native American tribes. Bridgestone is working to educate local growers on climate-smart farming techniques and irrigation to help them adapt to the current hardships caused by the environmental changes, with the aim of planting more than 25,000 acres of guayule before the end of the decade.

In early 2022, Bridgestone announced its EVERTIRE INTIATIVE focused on the recycling of tires at the end of their useful life to create new tires. Through this global effort, the company is working with partners in the co-development of tire recycling technologies. Continental Demos Products

Technology company Continental is inviting customers, media and the investor community to experience the future of mobility through its latest cutting-edge technologies. At CES 2023, January 5-8 in Las Vegas, Continental will display award-winning innovations that are evolving vehicles for future mobility needs—making our roadways safer, user experience more immersive and driving more sustainable. The company will demonstrate how product solutions are improving the entire mobility spectrum, including the way vehicles function and how people engage with them.

“We are ushering in a new era of mobility,” said Gilles Mabire, Chief Technology Officer, Continental Automotive. “At CES, we’ll demonstrate how it is impacting the vehicle at every level, from the concrete to the cloud. These innovations will disrupt the entire mobility experience, not just for drivers, but for all forms of transportation, including vulnerable road users. At CES, we are offering a glimpse at how the future on the road will be safer, more sustainable, and more efficient.”

Sustainability a focus – starting from the concrete

Sustainability is a focus for Continental across the vehicle, from material sourcing to recycling. That starts where the rubber meets the road. At CES 2023, Continental will highlight two sustainable tires: the ContiTread EcoPlus Green and Conti Urban. Both commercial vehicle tires demonstrate the leading edge of Continental when it comes to sustainability. Continental will also showcase modules and sensors specifically designed for electromobility to support new, more efficient electric vehicles, road safety and a greener planet.

Autonomous and Smart Solutions – connecting to the cloud

Continental is integrating the “CV3” SoC family with artificial intelligence (AI) from semiconductor company Ambarella into its Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). The aim of this first step is to offer the market scalable solutions that meet their individual requirements for assisted driving. The integration, announced in November, will be presented for the first time in Las Vegas. The high-performance, power efficient and scalable SoC portfolio from Ambarella processes acquired sensor data faster and more comprehensively at about half the regular power consumption. This enables a broader environmental perception for safer mobility. With less power consumption and a lighter weight of battery, the chipset can also contribute to an increased range of electric vehicles. It complements Continental’s solutions for assisted driving and further advances vehicle automation.

Continental’s HRL131 High-Performance LiDAR unlocks autonomous driving features. The HRL131 was developed with partner AEye. It is the automotive industry’s first software-defined long-range LiDAR – designed to see farther and react to objects sooner than previously possible. Vehicles can be detected at a distance of over 300 meters and pedestrians at a distance of over 200 meters. This way, the technology enables key features for passenger and commercial applications. Its ability to detect small obstacles, such as bricks, at high speeds from far distances in adverse weather is critical for advancing high-speed, highway autopilot and hub-to-hub autonomous trucking. Testing and validation of the production intent samples will occur in 2023. The first series production is planned for end of 2024.

In addition to becoming more automated, vehicle technology is increasingly more connected. Connected vehicles make driving safer and more convenient. To support such new functions, cars are becoming computers on wheels. Software-defined vehicles and connected mobility require more intelligence and more computing power, but current vehicle architectures were reaching their limits. Continental‘s High-Performance Computer (HPC), first introduced with Volkswagen’s ID. electric series, expanded capabilities to move to a service-oriented, centralized vehicle system architecture. At CES 2023, Continental will show how Server / Zone Architectures take this evolution to another level. Vehicle architectures are further optimized as Zone Control Units (ZCUs) consolidate vehicle functions in physical zones.

Continental’s x-Domain Zone Control Units are key for the software-defined vehicle

ZCUs help realize the full potential of the software-defined vehicle as more complex software functions are continually introduced. By supporting the increasing separation of software and hardware, ZCUs reduce vehicle network complexity as well as cost. This separation is necessary for continuous updates, improvements, and function deployment services in connected vehicles. Here, ZCUs take over the role of a communication gateway. They act as intermediaries between high-performance computers, vehicle sensors, actuators, and electronic control units. Additionally, they provide smart power distribution and ensure the reliable execution of x-Domain real-time vehicle functions, such as audio, external sound, parking, heating, cooling, or suspension.

Continental’s ZCU platform is scalable and modular to allow vehicle manufacturers maximum flexibility for the design of their vehicle architectures. Complete integration is available for hardware, software and 3rd party software, services, and functions. With this approach, Continental enables vehicle manufacturers to introduce solutions quicker and in a more cost-efficient way.

Software for the mobility of tomorrow

Future software will unlock all new opportunities for vehicles. To ensure vehicles can expand with software, Continental offers the Continental Automotive Edge Framework (CAEdge). It is a modular hardware and software framework that connects a vehicle to the cloud and provides developers with the possibility to create, test and deploy software functions in a highly efficient way. This allows connected vehicles to evolve over the entire life cycle with quick and convenient software updates. Drivers can integrate functions that will be invented in the future and add them to the capabilities of their vehicles. To enable this, vehicle manufacturers can also choose from a full range of software solutions from Continental’s functions catalog, such as Window Lifter, Software-Defined Radio, Motion or Maneuvering Packages for Automated Driving or Remote Parking, and many more.

Immersive Driver Experience

Innovations are all about improving the driving experience. Continental is not only focused on making driving safer, but also more intuitive and immersive for drivers. As User Experience is becoming a key factor for car buyers, Continental’s display technology will show how the interior of the vehicle is becoming the “new horsepower”. With the Curved Ultrawide Display, Continental will showcase a unique curved display spanning across the entire width of the cockpit at CES 2023.

“Ultrawide” means a width of more than 1.2 meters (nearly 4 feet), which arches from one A-pillar to the other. The avant-garde display design creates a new dimension of user experience while the innovative operating concept based on an invisible control panel ensures greater safety and comfort.

Continental at CES 2023

Continental will hold a news conference during CES Media Days at Mandalay Bay, Level 2, Room A, on Jan. 4 at 3 p.m. Additionally, the technology company will showcase its latest innovations in a private exhibit at the Renaissance Hotel. An invitation-only media event has been scheduled on Jan. 5. Please contact Mary Arraf for details.

MORAI Simulation

MORAI, a member of the Born2Global Centre, the leading developer of full-stack autonomous driving simulation technology, announced that it has advanced its autonomous driving simulation technologies to expand its application to various unmanned systems. The company will exhibit the latest technologies via its simulation platform MORAI SIM at CES 2023.

MORAI SIM helps users verify vehicles and systems by establishing a virtual environment, digitally simulating everything from complex physical conditions to weather and even lighting changes. In the case of self-driving automobiles, MORAI SIM provides a simulation environment identical to reality and a virtual platform that includes sensors, vehicle models and scenarios to enable verification that ensures reliability and safety of the self-driving systems. Scenario tests that cannot be conducted on the road, such as tests that evaluate risk of pedestrian collision, can be repeated many times on the virtual platform.

MORAI has now advanced its autonomous driving simulator solution to be used for a variety of unmanned vehicles – including aircraft, robots, vessels, and unmanned ground vehicles – in verifying the safety of their systems.

“Next-generation mobility innovations such as UAM, unmanned robots and vessels are rapidly progressing,” said Jiwon Jung, CEO of MORAI. “Simulation has been drawing attention as a major breakthrough technology to promote mobility innovation as it can quickly, safely and cost-effectively verify the safety and functionality of autonomous driving systems. We plan to share MORAI’s innovative technologies and vision at CES 2023 in addition to strengthening our partnership with global partners.”

For instance, MORAI SIM Robotics, designed for robotics applications, supports verifying Autonomous Mobile Robots (AMR) in a virtual environment. The solution offers modelling of different types of robots, such as walking robots and manipulators, in addition to wheel-type moving robots, and applies different dynamics to express realistic movements within the virtual simulator environment. It also replicates the same environments in which AMR can be driven, from indoors such as factories and buildings to outdoor pedestrian roads. Through this application, users can configure the environment and scenario as needed to verify their AMR.

MORAI also offers MORAI SIM AIR, the simulation solution for next-generation aviation mobility, such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) and drones, to verify the systems’ safety in a virtual environment. By simulating various flight environments that can occur in real-life during UAM operations, it allows users to verify the safety of the aircraft and prevent dangerous situations in advance.

MORAI has enhanced the functionality of the traffic control system. MORAI SIM Traffic, a digital twin-based control system, supports precise traffic control by implementing the same traffic environment as reality in a virtual environment. The system displays autonomous vehicles on the road, as well as connected vehicles, pedestrians, and infrastructure information in real time in the 3D environment, allowing the overall traffic flow to be visualized and analyzed. By reflecting the traffic volume information collected in real time, it will be possible to analyze the effect of traffic flow on autonomous and connected vehicles. On the other hand, it will also be possible to verify and analyze how these vehicles have an impact on the overall traffic flow.

MORAI is the first Korean company to have independently developed a full-stack self-driving simulation solution which includes the core simulation engine. The company supplies industry, research organizations, and universities with autonomous driving simulation solutions. Its key customers include Hyundai Motor Company, Samsung Engineering, Naver Labs, Korea Automobile Testing & Research Institute, and Korea Automotive Technology Institute. In February, the company raised USD 23 million through Series B funding round with investors such as Korea Investment Partners, KB Investment, and Korea Development Bank.
