ACT Expo Round-Up: Daimler, Volvo, Penske, SEA Electric, Mack, Tropos, Lordstown & GreenPower

The ACT Expo in Long Beach, California begins tomorrow, here is round-up of expected news and announcements.

On Monday May 9 there will a welcome opening and introduction of “2022 Launch of State of Sustainable Fleets” report.

There will be news announcements from:

  • Daimler Truck North America
  • Volvo Trucks North America
  • Penske Truck Leasing & Shell Recharge Solutions.

Monday: Enel X plans to announce a first-of-its-kind microgrid project that co-locates power for both EV charging and facility operations.

Volvo Trucks North America is set to debut its next generation Volvo VNR Electric 6×2 tractor in its booth (#1736) during the Advanced Clean Transportation (ACT) Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center in Long Beach, California,  Volvo Trucks’ ACT Expo booth will for the first time also feature a long-haul VNL model, integrated with the Aurora Driver from Volvo Autonomous Solutions, and an ECR25 Electric excavator from Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE).

“The next generation Volvo VNR Electric is in production since Q2 2022 and will be on display in our booth, delivering on the promises that we made at ACT Expo 2021 just nine months ago to lead the industry toward more sustainable transportation. Our electromobility solutions are on the road now and we continue to develop and deliver innovative technology to drive sustainable freight transport forward,” said Peter Voorhoeve, president, Volvo Trucks North America. “Volvo Trucks’ booth at ACT Expo will showcase the success of our industry-leading electromobility solutions and allow attendees to see firsthand the latest technological advancements and how fleets can successfully adopt and adapt to the rapid change in the transportation industry.”

The Volvo VNR Electric model was designed as a zero-tailpipe emissions transportation solution for fleet operators supporting local and regional distribution, pickup and delivery, and food and beverage distribution. In January 2022, Volvo Trucks announced production plans for its next generation VNR Electric model with an operational range of up to 275 miles. The enhanced Volvo VNR Electric, which is now in production, comes with state-of-the-art 250kW charging capability, enabling an 80% charge in 90 minutes for the six-battery package and 60 minutes for the four-battery version.

During the Volvo Trucks press conference in its ACT Expo booth on Monday, May 9, at 5:00 p.m. PST, Voorhoeve will spotlight exciting sustainable freight transport updates, including new electromobility partnerships, customer orders, charging infrastructure advancements, and insights in autonomous transport solutions.

In addition to showcasing Volvo Trucks’ electromobility solutions, Volvo Autonomous Solutions will spotlight the progress that has been made through their partnership with Aurora to jointly develop on-highway autonomous trucks in the U.S. The Volvo Trucks booth will showcase a Volvo Autonomous Solutions VNL 760 with an integrated Aurora Driver for future hub-to-hub operations, representing an important step towards launching fully autonomous Class 8 trucks commercially in North America.

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) is also hosted in the booth and will showcase its ECR25 Electric compact excavator to demonstrate how battery-electric construction equipment can be a viable alternative to diesel equipment. The all-electric ECR25, part of a growing electric offering from Volvo CE, will enable fleets to reduce their carbon footprint and is anticipated to accelerate the deployment of zero-emission solutions in this segment.

On Tuesday May 10

  • WattEV and the Port of Long Beach will make an announcement about a zero emissions drayage truck charging.
  • Hexagon will announce clean fuel solutions.
  • Blue Bird will expand it commercial products.
  • US Hybrid will announce advanced fuel cell and electric powertrain conversions/integration.
  • Volvo Construction will show more construction equipment for North America.
  • SEA Electric will offers a new stripped chassis for last-mile deliveries.

Tropos Motors ABLE Designs

Lordstown E-Endurance Truck Endures

– Lordstown Motors Corp. (Nasdaq: RIDE), (“Lordstown Motors” or “LMC”), an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) of electric light duty trucks focused on the commercial fleet market, will be in Booth #1017

The Ohio innovator is bringing the Lordstown Endurance full size all-electric pickup onsite at the ACT Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center.

Peterbilt Shows EV Models

Peterbilt Motors Company will showcase its entire lineup of production battery electric commercial vehicles during ACT Expo at the Long Beach Convention Center. Peterbilt is leading the charge in zero-emissions technology with the industry’s most complete product lineup available for order right now. The Model 579EV, Model 520EV and Model 220EV are optimized for their respective local pickup and delivery, drayage, short regional haul and refuse applications.

In addition to seeing Peterbilt’s full lineup of electric vehicles on the show floor, a Model 579EV will also be available as part of ACT Expo’s Ride & Drive program on May 10 and 11th during select times.

GreenPower Flexes it Power

 GreenPower Motor Company Inc.     • The EV Star is a multi-purpose, zero-emission, min-E Bus. It has a range of up to 150 miles and offers dual charging capabilities as a standard feature. The EV Star can be used for para-transit, employee shuttles, micro-transit, and vanpool service.
  • EV Star Cargo 
    • The EV Star Cargo is a class-4 vehicle for last-mile delivery solutions with a capacity of up to 5,000 pounds and 150-mile range. The EV Star Cargo was made to be a delivery solutions vehicle and can take on the most challenging routes.
