SCS Carbon Offset Project

SCS Global Services (SCS) and Verra announced the first-ever validation of a carbon offset project under a new methodology for electric vehicle (EV) charging systems. Electrify America’s achievement (for its direct current (DC) fast chargers) came last month after successful validation and registration of the project’s design under the internationally recognized Verified Carbon Standard (VCS) by third-party verification firm SCS.

Toyota & Hebei Commercialize Safety Testing

Toyota and Hebei Pride today announced a new license agreement to commercialize standardized safety testing systems for the development and validation of automotive automatic emergency braking (AEB) systems. The agreement is the first license from Toyota IP Solutions, which launched in late 2019 to broaden access to Toyota’s world leading patent portfolio.

The testing technology, which was also utilized by SAE International as the baseline to develop overall standards for pedestrian and bicyclist AEB testing, represents an industry breakthrough that will help drive greater innovation in a key area for automotive safety. It covers the design and standard testing methods behind pedestrian and bicyclist mannequins of different shapes and sizes, surrogate concrete dividers, guardrails and grass that can be used as impact targets to test AEB systems. The technology was developed and patented through a partnership between the Toyota Collaborative Safety Research Center (CSRC) and Indiana University-Purdue University-Indianapolis Transportation Active Safety Institute (IUPUI-TASI).

VW & Amazon Web Service Opens UP Industriaal Cloud

Volkswagen, together with Amazon Web Services (AWS) and integration partner Siemens, is opening up the Industrial Cloud to other manufacturing and technology companies. New partner companies will be able to connect with Volkswagen plants and to contribute their own software applications for optimizing production processes to the Industrial Cloud. This way, a rapidly growing range of industrial software applications for Volkswagen’s plants will be created. Each location will be able to obtain applications for its machinery, tools and equipment direct from the Industrial Cloud to optimize production (app store approach). The Volkswagen Group expects significant efficiency and productivity gains at its plants. The partner companies will be able to scale and further develop their applications in one of the world’s largest automobile production networks. This will also enable them to optimize their own processes and products. As a first step, eleven pioneering international companies, ABB, ASCon, BearingPoint, Celonis, Dürr, GROB-WERKE, MHP, NavVis, SYNAOS, Teradata and WAGO, will be joining the Industrial Cloud.

ReCarbon & HYZON

ReCarbon, Inc the developer of the proprietary Plasma Carbon Conversion Unit (PCCU), a revolutionary greenhouse gas utilization technology, today announced the execution of a Memorandum of Understanding with world-leading hydrogen fuel-cell mobility company HYZON Motors, Inc.

Mitsubishi Electric Corporation (TOKYO:6503) announced today that the company has developed what it believes to be the world’s first technology capable of highly natural and intuitive interaction with humans based on a scene-aware capability to translate multimodal sensing information into natural language. The novel technology, Scene-Aware Interaction, incorporates Mitsubishi Electric’s proprietary Maisart® compact AI technology to analyze multimodal sensing information for highly natural and intuitive interaction with humans through context-dependent generation of natural language.

The technology recognizes contextual objects and events based on multimodal sensing information, such as images and video captured with cameras, audio information recorded with microphones, and localization information measured with LiDAR. To prioritize these different categories of information, Mitsubishi Electric developed the Attentional Multimodal Fusion technology, which is capable of automatically weighting salient unimodal information to support appropriate word selections for describing scenes with accuracy. In benchmark testing using a common test set, the Attentional Multimodal Fusion technology used audio and visual information to achieve a Consensus-Based Image Description Evaluation (CIDEr) score that was 29 percentage points higher than in the case of using visual information only. Mitsubishi Electric’s combination of Attentional Multimodal Fusion with scene understanding technology and context-based natural language generation realizes a powerful end-to-end Scene-Aware Interaction system for highly intuitive interaction with users in diverse situations.
Scene-Aware Interaction for car navigation, one target application, will provide drivers with intuitive route guidance.

ON Releases Bluetooth SoC

ON Semiconductor driving energy efficient innovations, today announced the immediate availability of Veridify’s Public Key security tools for the RSL10, the industry’s lowest power Flash-based Bluetooth® Low Energy radio System on Chip (SoC). Veridify Security’s tools are available in a CMSIS-Pack, giving developers a familiar and fast implementation path to protect their RSL10 solutions with critical security features including device-to-device authentication, data protection, and secure firmware updates.

The RSL10 radio family offers built-in security features, including an AES-128 encryption hardware block and, for IP protection, the ability to lock the debug interface against potential intruders. These ‘on processor’ features are complemented by Veridify’s technology to provide identification, authentication, and data protection between devices in the field. An RSL10 radio running Veridify’s public key tools can exchange their signed public keys, authenticate the public key owner, create an ephemeral mutual secret, and then use this shared secret with the AES128 engine to encrypt data between the device and its user.

Devices running Veridify Security tools, like the RSL10, can take advantage of DOME™, Veridify’s zero-touch onboarding, blockchain ownership management, and enrolment solution. Veridify’s security solutions are ISO 26262 ASIL D certified, have a very small code footprint, and can be implemented in software-only, as demonstrated on the RSL10’s Arm® Cortex®-M3 processor. Security protocols built with Veridify tools run many times faster than legacy methods. For example, the authentication protocol on the RSL10 typically runs in under 28 milliseconds, complementing the energy-saving benefits afforded by the RSL10. Solutions built with Veridify are ideally suited for applications at the edge of the Internet of Things (IoT) in the industrial, smart building, medical, automotive, and consumer spaces.

JuiceBar Chargers at Pride Stores

JuiceBar®, a manufacturer of electric vehicle (EV) charging stations known for their sleek design and cutting-edge technology, announced today that it has launched an innovative line of chargers that deliver the safest and fastest electric vehicle charging experience and which do not require network servicing agreements.

“Our JuiceBar Gen 3 Chargers were designed to respond to the demands of property owners, installation partners and EV drivers,” said Paul Vosper, President and CEO of JuiceBar. “JuiceBar has future-proofed its Gen 3 chargers by providing the highest levels of power and charging speeds in preparation for the longer range EVs and the increased demands of mass-market adoption. The Gen 3 48-amp is 60% faster than the industry’s standard 30-amp Level 2 charger, and the Gen 3 80-amp charging speed is more than 2.5X the speed of the average Level 2 charger.”

As the most powerful Level 2 EV charger on the market, the Gen 3 eliminates installation and maintenance worries of our clients while providing the most reliable and flexible service to their customers, employees, and guests.

Unlike most chargers on the market, the Gen 3 does not force buyers onto a proprietary subscription-based network. Instead, property owners can choose their own network, a degree of flexibility that utilities throughout the country are encouraging as the marketplace for EVs evolves and buyers demand competitive pricing, new options to generate revenue and manage electricity usage.

The JuiceBar Gen 3 carries on the timeless design of the original JuiceBar charging station which was developed with BMW Designworks USA. The JuiceBar design provides owners with options to customize their chargers with logos and unique designs, allowing brand building and advertising opportunities.
