VW Intros Sustainability Ratings
As of 1st July 2019, the Volkswagen Group will introduce a worldwide Sustainability Rating for its suppliers. This enables the company to assess the sustainability conduct of its business partners in its supply chain with regard to risks relating to human rights, environmental protection and corruption.
Dr. Stefan Sommer, Board Member for Components and Procurement: “We are convinced that a sustainable supplier network is a guarantee of long-term corporate success. Sustainability is becoming a decisive business factor”.
In a Sustainability Rating, the suppliers first provide a self-assessment of their sustainability conduct on the basis of a questionnaire and documents supplied. The data and documents are checked by qualified third parties. In case of doubt, on-site checks are carried out. If misconduct occurs in the areas of environmental/social affairs or corruption, these lead to exclusion from the award of contracts.//
Investments in BrightWay
BrightWay Vision, a spinoff of Elbit Systems, developing a Gated Imaging system for vehicles, announced the addition of strategic and venture capital investors and the completion of a 25 million USD financing round. This is the company’s Round B, which will be mainly used to commercialize the technology in order to allow mass production. The investment is made by the world’s largest automotive headlight manufacturer, KOITO Manufacturing Co. of Japan, and Israeli Magenta Venture Partners.
The system developed by BrightWay Vision enables imaging in poor visibility: darkness and harsh weather conditions – rain, snow and fog. The system incorporates a CMOS sensor and a light source that is installed in the vehicle and produces a clear image for the full range from 0-250 meters. The solution slices this range into several sections and allows for computer vision to analyze each section individually and produce an image. The technology will enable artificial intelligence (AI) to operate at night and under poor visibility and detect even small debris on the road. The company holds 25 registered patent families.

CarIQ Funded
CarIQ, a leader in vehicle payment technology, announced it has closed Series A funding of $5 million led by Quest Venture Partners with participation from new investors Avanta Ventures, Citi Ventures, Alpana Ventures, Plug and Play, and AVG’s Spike Ventures.
Car IQ is developing a payment gateway that will enable vehicles to autonomously connect to a bank’s payment network, validate, and pay for their own services. The Car IQ platform will eliminate the need to use credit cards in vehicle service and payment workflows, enabling direct connections to banking institutions. Car IQ partners with automobile OEMs, financial institutions, and third-party service providers so that vehicles in fleets utilizing its technology are able to pay for services rendered autonomously and seamlessly, without human interaction.
Car IQ’s dynamic identity management capabilities leverage the complex sensor data present in every vehicle to create a unique “digital vehicle fingerprint,” which will allow vehicles to directly connect to payment networks and pay for services. This breakthrough technology enables data governance at the vehicle level, creating integrity and transparency for the vehicle’s transactions, which significantly reduces the risk of fraud. Car IQ is designed to serve the broad needs of vehicle fleet managers including automotive OEMs, car-sharing services, ride sharing platforms, and commercial fleets.
Car IQ was founded in 2016 by auto industry veteran Sterling Pratz, when he recognized a lack of innovation and consistency with automotive payment solutions. He saw an opportunity for cars to connect and pay for their own services autonomously, removing the need for credit cards. Prior to Car IQ, Sterling founded and served as CEO of Autonet Mobile, an intelligent vehicle telematics provider that was acquired by Lear Corp. in 2015.

Unex & STMicrolectronics
Unex, a leading provider of V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) systems, and STMicroelectronics (NYSE: STM), a global semiconductor leader serving customers across the spectrum of electronics applications, announce the integration of Unex’s SOM-301, the most flexible and cyber-secure V2X System-on-Module, on STMicroelectronics’ Telemaco3P Modular Telematics Platform (TC3P-MTP).
Unex’s SOM-301 is a self-contained System-on-Module that integrates all V2X essential hardware and software components and features Unex’s V2Xcast® technology. SOM-301 devices integrate ST’s Teseo III automotive multi-constellation GNSS chip and Autotalks‘ state-of-the-art CRATON2/PLUTON2 – global and truly secure V2X chipset, capable of both DSRC and C-V2X (PC5) connectivity.
The Telemaco3P Modular Telematics Platform provides an open development environment for prototyping advanced Smart Driving applications. At its core is ST’s Telemaco3P secure automotive processor, the industry’s first device with an embedded isolated Hardware Security Module for state-of-the-art security. The platform provides positioning hardware with ST’s automotive-grade multi-constellation GNSS Teseo IC and dead-reckoning sensors. It also offers direct connectivity to automotive buses such as CAN-FD, FlexRay, and BroadR-Reach (100Base-T1), as well as optional modules for Bluetooth®, Wi-Fi, and LTE.
Unex’s V2Xcast software stack enables extended capabilities for the V2X processing; the CRATON2 on SOM-301 handles secure V2X communication on one side, while the Telemaco3P manages the applications, fusing the V2X messages with data from in-vehicle, Wi-Fi, or cellular networks.
ANSYS AVSimulation
The next generation of autonomous vehicles (AV) will be designed faster, safer and more affordably thanks to a strategic partnership between AVSimulation and ANSYS . The collaboration integrates revolutionary simulation technology from AVSimulation with ANSYS’ immersive autonomous driving simulation solutions, greatly accelerating AV’s path to market for automobile manufacturers.
Meeting the stringent safety standards for autonomous driving requires proof that all complex interactions between an autonomous vehicle and its surrounding environment, traffic and weather can be tested across millions of scenarios. This testing requires billions of miles of exhaustive physical road tests of the prototype car, consuming decades of development time and cost.
To drastically reduce physical prototype testing and save time, OEMs are turning to ANSYS® VRXPERIENCE®, one of ANSYS’ immersive, cutting-edge solutions, to combine virtual reality capabilities with physics-based simulation. It enables engineers to test, validate and experience AV systems and vehicle performance in everyday driving conditions, spanning millions of virtual miles in a single day. VRXPERIENCE includes HMI testing, physical sensor simulation (including radars, LIDARs, cameras and ultrasonic), embedded software controls integration, headlamp simulation and links to simulation data management and systems safety analysis.
Embedded within VRXPERIENCE, as its driving simulator module, AVSimulation’s proven SCANeR™ Studio product is an open and scalable modular simulation solution that creates an ultra-realistic virtual world, enabling users to simulate thousands of driving scenarios with numerous variabilities on high performance clusters or on public cloud, such as Microsoft Azure. SCANeR™ incorporates roads generated from high definition maps and asset libraries, traffic situations, weather conditions, vehicle dynamics and more.
