Hyundai began rolling out updates for CarPlay and Android Auto to its cars with navigation systems in late Mayor select models and set up a web portal for checking availability for other models. Updates for compatible Azera, Sonata Plug-In, Sonata Hybrid and Veloster are ready for download. It will take a while, it may be good project for over the weekend. With most updates Hyundai, you can take the car to the dealer, who will install it for a fee.
Our readers are reporting that the company now has updates available that were listed for an early August updates which are:
- 2015/2016 Hyundai Azera with Navigation is eligible for an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto update.
- 2016 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid with Navigation.
- 2016 Hyundai Veloster with Navigation.
- 2016 Hyundai Sonata Plug-In Hybrid with Navigation is eligible for an Apple CarPlay and Android Auto update.
The web portal also validates which Hyundai models that are currently available for an update to Android Auto and CarPlay.
To update the software, you’ll need your VIN number USB Drive with at least 5GB of space or the SD card from the Navigation system. If you don’t have an SD card reader on your computer, you’ll need a USB card reader with an SD Card port.
Vehicles with navigation require the SD card from the car itself don’t use one for the camera or you will be able to do it
The download can take so long that you may want to do something else while it’s downloading especially for the Hyundai with navigation. Please be warned do not remove the SD card or shut off the engine during the update process
If you need more detailed instructions, read the original article with text, you can print out the text or read it on your computer while you complete the process. There are also installation videos available.
At Google I/O it was announced Android Auto will be coming as a standalone product without cars on smartphone and Waze app will be added. Read Android Auto Tips & Tricks or Android Auto Review. Read CarPlay Tips & Trick or great questions to ask.
CarPlay requires an iPhone with a lightning connector and iOS 7 or higher. Android requires and Android phone with Android 5.0 Lollipop or higher, a Bluetooth connection and the cable that came with the phone. If you ask Siri while connected to CarPlay, “What can Siri do?” She replies “You can ask me to get directions find businesses, make phone calls play music and check or send texts and emails. I can show you lots more when you’re not driving.”
Android Auto brings Android into the car for music, messaging Google Maps, calendar integration and phone functions using the touchscreen or “Ok Google” through the voice button.
Hyundai owners who have been anxiously awaiting the update to Android Auto and CarPlay can put their VIN number into the Hyundai VIN validation web portal to find out if there is an update avail for their exact model of vehicle.

Ryan: hello doug, how may I help you?
Doug: Sorry, got disocnna again earlier
Doug: Ryan: the 2016 model does not inclued apple carplay either Ryan: did you have any other questions? Ryan: hello?
Ryan: yes, that is correct?
Doug: OK, so thats sad but is there any formal request I can make for this?
Ryan: not from us, you would need to contact the manufacturer
Doug: Hyundai Canada doesnt support Carplay either but your software added it so wouldn’t the request be to you, since Hyundai already said no
Ryan: as far as i know, the application will be available for free from the manufacturer in the Fall
Doug: for Canadian cars?
Ryan: yes
Doug: We’ll see, but all I wanted to say was if it were included for my car, I would gladly pay for Ver 10 right away
Ryan: did you have any other questions?
Doug: Its just that the Nav is same for Tuscon, Elantra, it could have been added with software to my model and many users would have paid for it since no sight of Android Auto or Carplay for Sonata 2015. I am not sure about the free option
Doug: Well, no thanks for your help. I am hoping you could add this as a request to your s/w developers
Ryan: i am sorry for the inconvenience, but our company has no control over that. that is up to the manufacturer
Ryan: we were told (by them) that the app will be offered for free in the fall to all vehicles
Doug: OK thanx
