Embedded chips and connected car news tips this week come from Quanergy, ABI Research, SNS Research, Delphi, Parrott, Synopsys, AGL, Movimento, UIEvolution and VeriSilicon.
New LiDAR from Quanergy
Quanergy Systems, Inc., developed of the all-new S3-Qi, a miniature solid state LiDAR sensor that is 15% the size of the previous solid state model (S3).
Only four months after the unveiling of the industry-changing S3 solid state LiDAR sensor, Quanergy expands its portfolio with the S3-Qi sensor and advances the state of the art in solid state LiDAR technology by setting new benchmarks in size with a 1” x 1.5” footprint, weight at about 100 grams, and low power consumption. The small form factor, combined with a cost-effective design, makes the S3-Qi well suited in multiple applications including drones, intelligent robotics, security, smart homes and industrial automation. Mass production of the S3-Qi is targeted for Q1 2017.
Smart Electric Mobility to Rise
ABI Research, predicts an imminent rise in smart electric mobility. Data analysis forecasts global electric vehicle revenue will hit $58 billion in 2021, more than five times its market value in 2015.
Leading automotive manufacturers Ford and BMW, for instance, are looking to create electric bikes that could fit and charge inside of a car. The goal is for drivers to then be able to ditch their cars and use the bikes as a more eco-friendly mode of transportation to complete the last leg of long journeys. Similarly, Tier 1 companies, like Continental, are designing and manufacturing batteries and engines that can better accommodate small, personal electric vehicles.
Big Revenue from Connected Car Services
By 2020, SNS Research estimates that connected car services will account for nearly $40 Billion in annual revenue, driven by a host of applications, including but not limited to infotainment, navigation, fleet management, remote diagnostics, automatic crash notification, enhanced safety, UBI (Usage Based Insurance), traffic management and even autonomous driving.
Delphi Joins Auto-ISAC
Delphi joined the Automotive Information Sharing and Analysis Center (Auto-ISAC) welcomes Delphi Automotive. It is first original equipment supplier member. This membership marks the expansion of Auto-ISAC beyond its core membership of automobile manufacturers to include Tier 1 suppliers.
Auto-ISAC was formed in July 2015 in a collective effort by the auto industry to establish a secure platform for sharing, tracking and analyzing intelligence about cyber threats and potential vulnerabilities. Auto-ISAC operates as a central hub that allows members to anonymously submit and receive information to help them more effectively counter cyber threats in real time. Currently, Auto-ISAC members account for more than 98 percent of light-duty vehicles on the road in North America.
