iPhone Siri Eyes-Free updates Dodge (Viper/Durango/Challenger/Charger) Jeep, Chrysler UConnect with 8.4″

2016-features-phone-catchupFCA Uconnect can now be updated to add Apple Siri Eyes Free to Uconnect systems for nearly two million properly equipped Uconnect vehicles dating back to the 2013 model year. In order to do the update yourself, you will need access to a web connected computer and a USB driver with 4 gigabytes of available space and your VIN number.

First, to see if an update is available, go to www.driveuconnect.com/software-update, enter your 17-digit VIN number. If an update’s available, plug the USB drive into your computer and follow the onscreen prompts.

On the website, you’ll find an optional tutorial that explains how to download the software update using a download manager called Akamai NetSession. This interface is optional and can help quickly download large files to the USB.

After the file is downloaded take the USB drive into your car in a well-ventilated area, and then start your car. You can not drive the car or move it until the update is finished. FCA warns do note remove the USB or shut off your can during the update process it may corrupt the sytem.

When you see this screen, verify that the system software version on the USB is different than your current version. Press YES to begin the update. Follow the screen prompts.After a few seconds, your Uconnect System will reset.

After the update has completed, the system will reset and return to normal operation. When the system powers back on, wait approximately 60-90 seconds until a confirmaition screen appera. Confirm that the software version numbers now match. The software update is complete and your Uconnect system is now equipped with the latest software. It’s now safe to remove the USB drive from the media hub.

If the numbers on the screen do not match, press YES to perform the software update again.

Siri Eyes Free capability, allows iPhone ownre to use their voice to dictate and send messages, select specific songs, create reminder notifications and set calendar entries.Drivers can activate Siri Eyes Free from the voice button on the steering wheel and speak natural language voice commands to send text messages, play music, set reminders, place phone calls and access turn-by-turn directions. Drivers will simply push and hold the voice recognition button on the steering wheel until the Siri screen appears on the 8.4-inch touch screen and the user hears the audible tones. Siri Eyes Free is compatible with an Apple iPhone 4s or later.

To use Siri Eyes Free, first make sure Siri is enabled on your iPhone. Select SETTINGS, then GENERAL, select SIRI, and then enable Siri. Once Siri is enabled on your iPhone, make sure your iPhone is paired to the Uconnect system.

FCA warns that  Siri uses your car’s microphone and audio system. To ensure the best experience, speak clearly while facing straight forward. A good cellular connection is also required.

The new software update is available for the following vehicles equipped with a Uconnect 8.4 touchscreen system:

  • 2013-2015 Ram 1500, 2500, 3500
  • 2013-2015 Dodge Viper
  • 2014-2015 Dodge Durango
  • 2015 Dodge Challenger and Charger
  • 2014-2015 Jeep Cherokee and Grand Cherokee
  • 2015 Jeep Renegade
  • 2015 Chrysler 200 and 300

To download and install the Siri Eyes Free software update, vehicle owners can visit https://www.driveuconnect.com/software-update/  to receive the software. Customers can schedule a service appointment to have the software update installed at their preferred dealership. Additional charges for a service appointment may apply.
