At the LA Auto Show, more automakers announced Android Auto and Apple CarPlay features in their future models. We have added more automakers to the AUTO Connected Car News’ list of vehicle models that support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Automakers are upping their technology game by adding other smartphone and tech friendly features to their cars.
LA Auto Show Android-Auto-ers and Car-Players
At the show, Mitsubishi revealed that the 2017 Mistubishi Mirage SE and GT models will come with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay standard.
The 2017 Kia Sportage will be the first Kia to offer UVO3 with Android Auto, Apple CarPlay (late availability), 14 telematics services, 8 GB of music storage, access to onscreen apps and Wi-Fi tethering capability, all free of charge.
We have a call out to Kia to find out exactly what they mean by “Wi-Fi” tethering, if the Wi-Fi tethering is where the data comes from the phone or the data is coming from the car’s head unit.
New for 2017, the Hyundai Elantra features two upgrades, a 7.0-inch Display Audio touchscreen system with rearview camera, and 8.0-inch navigation system. Both multimedia systems are equipped with Android Auto.Since smartphone integration requires a wired connection to the vehicle, Elantra provides an available second USB port for charging – the first application on a Hyundai vehicle.
The Cadillac XT5 integrates a wireless charger for smartphones between the front seats. Like all Cadillac models in 2016, XT5 has 4G wireless connectivity, with a Wi-Fi hotspots and Apple CarPlay and Android Auto for simpler smartphone integration. Cadillac introduced the 2017 Plug-In Hybrid Electric version of the 2017 Cadillac Touring 6 (CT6) which is expected to have both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Both the XT5 and CT6 will have the Rear Camera Mirror that improves field of vision by an estimated 300 percent. The high-resolution streaming video function will remove obstructions of passengers, headrests and the vehicle’s roof and rear pillars.
Volvo to Make Sensus of Apple CarPlay
We were told by the Volvo rep that a software update for Apple CarPlay will out in December that will connect with Sensus Connect.

In November, BMW’s CEO Harald Krüger said during a Conference Call that BMW would support the systems but not mention a model year or date. He noted, “Obviously, it is not in the interest of our customers to give third-party providers access to their data. For us, the protection of our customers’ data is top priority.”
Ford Forges Ahead
We have seen a new inkling from Ford’s Jim Buczkowski who said that Ford will launching Android and Apple CarPlay soon along with the open Ford SmartDeviceLink. Although it has taken over a year, the automotive world is integrating Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
