Google has now enabled Google Maps so that does not require a data, Wi-Fi or Internet connection for turn-by-turn directions or location search.
Users can download an area of the world to a phone, and when there is no connection Google Maps will continue to work seamlessly. Previously without a connection users could view an area of the map offline. Now users get can get turn-by-turn driving directions, search for specific destinations, and find useful information about places, like hours of operation, contact information or ratings.
Google previewed the new features during Google I/O in May, and today Google is gradually rolling out the first set of these improvements with the latest version of Google Maps on Android (coming soon to iOS).
