ChargePoint, EV charging network, announced a new service for apartments and condominiums to make it easier for renters and condo owners to charge their electric vehicles at home.
The service offers no long-term commitment, 24/7 support and a charging station provided to the resident at no cost.
Participating property managers will setup the parking spots with wiring for EV charging and set a price for electricity. ChargePoint will bill the resident a one-time activation fee and a monthly subscription fee for EV charging services.
Chargepoint will install a level 2 charging station and enable residents to pay the property owner for their energy use with their ChargePoint account.
Property managers and tenants can participate in the program on a month-to-month basis. If a resident moves, the charging station will be deactivated until another EV driving resident decides to subscribe to the service.
ChargePoint contends that ChargePoint’s Multifamily Home Service also provides a competitive advantage to forward-looking apartment and condominium property managers who can offer current and prospective residents an amenity that other complexes do not provide.
ChargePoint also will offer this summer, ChargePoint Home, which plugs into a standard 240V outlet and has a universal J1772 connector that is compatible with all cars and can be installed either indoors or outdoors.
