ChargePoint charging for homes and express East/West corridors BMWs & VWs

chargepointmakeChargePoint recently announced two new initiatives ChargePoint Home and DC fast charging corridors along the east and west coast to help the over 280 thousand electric vehicle owners in America, especially BMW and Volkswagen EV drivers.

Home is Where the Charge is

ChargePoint unveiled what it calls the world’s most attractive and advanced home EV charging station. ChargePoint Home is fast and about the size of tablet.

ChargePoint Home, allows drivers can charge up to 25 miles per hour and manage the charger from their smartphone. Features include

  • Scheduling through the ChargePoint app to minimize energy costs and work around your life.
  • Remote start and stop charging.
  • Reminders.
  • Different cord lengths.
  • Integration with ChargePoint accounts to trackcharging information.
  • Works with Nest Learning Thermostat.

ChargePoint Home plugs into a standard 240V outlet and has a universal J1772 connector that is compatible with all cars and can be installed either indoors or outdoors. ChargePoint Home will be on the market this summer.

Long Distance BMW & Volkswagen Charging on Coasts

BMW, Volkswagen and ChargePoint,  announced an initiative to create 100 express charging corridors with fast charging stations along heavily-traveled routes on the East and West Coasts, spaced to enable long trips with electric BMWs and Volkswagens by the end of 2015.

Routes will be from Boston to Washington, D.C. in the east, and on the west coast covering and connecting Portland, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. The stations will have two 50 kW DC Fast chargers, or 24 kW DC Combo Fast chargers with the SAE Combo connector.

When charging at a 50 kW station, both the BMW i3 and the Volkswagen e-Golf can charge up to 80 percent in 20 minutes.
