Following GM’s announcement of V2V(Vehicle-to-Vehicle) devices coming to 2017 Cadillac models, Delphi announced it will be supplying the GM with technology and also stated the world’s first V2V/V2I products will be available in 2016.
Delphi reported that it is the first company with Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V) and Vehicle-to-Infrastructure (V2I) communication technology to significantly advance driver alerts.
The technology will extend ADAS features. Radio signals transmit traffic data from car to car to alert drivers of potential road hazards; even those beyond the driver’s line of sight or out of the vehicle’s sensor range.
This technology can signal to the driver a number of traffic situations ahead including road condition hazards, road work, emergency vehicle warning, stationary or slow moving vehicles, traffic jams, accidents, as well as traffic signals or signage indicators.
Delphi’s V2V technology reads radio signals sent from cars that have already detected a traffic situation. This data is then sent to other cars in the vicinity to warn their drivers and provide detailed information about the situation, such as location and duration of a construction zone.
Global production is targeted for launch in 2016 for the North American market.
