GM has “realigned” Cadillac making it a separate business unit. The new Cadillac will have new global headquarters in New York in 2105.
This is one of the many changes from new president Johan de Nysschen who came to Cadillac, last month from the Infiniti division of Nissan. Before that, he helped Volkswagen make Audi a top luxury brand.
The new leader promised bold moves for Cadillac to regain its luxury allure. The new headquarters in New York should help break with the past and connect with a different lifestyle.
‘It allows our team to share experiences with premium-brand consumers and develop attitudes in common with our audience,” said de Nysschen.
The technical aspects of Cadillacs including product development will remain in Detroit. Therefore we can assume that OnStar will still provide 4G LTE for the brand.
GM officials thanked New York Governour Andrew Cuomo for his active support of and involvement in establishing the creation of Cadillac NYC.
Cadillac has operations in more than 40 countries. It’s increased models lead to 28 percent global growth in 2013 and an increase of about 10 percent so far in 2014. Cadillac sales in China have grown 75 percent year to date.
