European Android fans may also become Honda Civic fans. Before to the Paris Auto Show on October 2, Honda announced that the 2015 Honda Civic will have an all new infotainment system using the Android-based Honda Connect System with a 7″ touchscreen in the car in the center stack.
The infotainment system features AM/FM, Digital Audio Broadcast Radio (Europe), internet Radio, Bluetooth connectivity, internet browsing, satellite navigation and rear-view parking camera. Honda has not announced smartphone connectivity options, yet.
The system runs Android 4.0.4 (Ice Cream Sandwich) with the same pinch, swipe and tap touching for tasks as a smartphone. Android 4.0.4 is an earlier version of Android than most smartphones today that are running Android 4.4. Kit Kat. In Europe there is higher percentage (70 % of sales) of Android users over iPhone uses. While in the United States there are more iPhone users and buyers.
We are wondering if there will be compatibility issues with new Android smartphones and iOS 8 iPhones which already have problems with in-car infotainment systems. The photo of the dash shows a big Google Search. If Google Search is embedded perhaps there will be wireless data connectivity?
American Honda Civics uses HondaLink Next Generation 2 which also has a 7 inch touchscreen that features Apple’s Siri Eyes Free mode with Siri operation with steering wheel controls.
HondaLink users can load Honda Launcher, Connect and Aha Radio for free. Navigation is $59.99 for HondaLink. The HondaLink apps in the app stores have terrible reviews. Currently, there are no Android HondaLink apps in Google Play. It seems strange because the European Hondas have systems based on Android. Meanwhile in the United States HondaLink is very iPhone connected.
Honda USA announced in June that Honda will introduce select vehicles compatible with Android Auto in 2015. It would be nice if the Honda owner could decide what operating systems, s/he prefers.
HondaLink Next Generation Apps are available o 2015 Civic EX and above, and 2014 Civic EX and above, Hybrid, Natural Gas, and Si models. Honda Link apps requires registration with HondaLink. Connections include HDMI cable connector, Apple lightning adapter, and Bluetooth HandsFreeLink connection.
I just bought a 2015 and they gave me the same damn line. I searched all over the web and it seems to have been already completed, it just needs to be distributed? hope it happpens soon!
I purchased a 2014 civic and was told that it would be compatible with android by the end of the year. That did not happen and now I don’t know if it will ever happen.
I want my 2014 civic si to mirror my navigation off my android. My salesperson told me it would be happening soon. Bunch of liars!
Honda has a staff working on Android Auto. It takes a long time to get everything to work together.
How long will this take
