Ford announced it will expand the SYNC AppLink system to 3.4 million more Ford vehicles with compatible systems.
SYNC AppLink lets Ford owners access and control smartphone apps including TuneIn, NPR and iHeartRadio via voice commands. More than 1-million vehicles equipped with SYNC AppLink are on the road today, and another 3.4 million vehicles – model year 2010 and newer – will be eligible to download AppLink later this year.
SYNC AppLink allows users to control over 60 smartphone mobile apps – on both iOS and Android platforms with voice commands.
In the future, telematics capabilities for Ford Motor Company’s SYNC system, will manage connectivity across the entire enterprise.
Ford has upgraded its organization and leading the newly aligned organization is telematics industry veteran and former GM executive, Don Butler. He reports to Raj Nair, group vice president, global product development.
SYNC AppLink works with most devices with Android OS 2.1 or later.
Compatible Android applications include: Aha™ Radio, Amazon MP3 for Android with Amazon Cloud Player, AT&T Navigator, Glympse™, Greater Media apps, iHeartAuto, Kaliki, NPR News, Pandora® Internet radio, Rhapsody, Slacker® Personal Radio, Scout™ by Telenav®, Stitcher™, and SYNC Destinations.
